The plot of Cutting It Short is based on a novel by Bohumil Hrabal, published in 1970s. The story is set in a brewery in Nymburk — a small town near Prague. It is a story about Mary and Francin — and the difficult start of their married life. Francin is a respected and sensible manager of the brewery. He leads a moderate and quiet life. As for his wife, Mary — she is a beautiful and extremely sensual woman. Her unearthly long hair is the pride of the entire town. Unfortunately, Mary has a difficult temperament. She drinks beer for breakfast, throws rare meat at the butcher and flirts with men. One day, Francin’s brother — Pepin — comes to Nymburk.
